22 Goats

22 Goats is an American alternative rock/indie rock trio from Seattle, Washington. Its three members are: Dax Morgan (lead vocals, guitar), Colin Beretta (drums), and Matthew “Fish” Fishberger (bass, backing vocals, keys and synth).

Dax first met future bandmate Fish in second grade, and the pair became close friends. In middle school, Dax and Fish met drummer Colin Beretta, and the threesome began playing cover tunes together in Dax’s garage. Soon, however, Dax started writing “pop punk, metal, and hardcore thrashers” for the band.

Originally, the band called themselves “Dax Attack,” a name Dax has since said in interviews was “the stupidest band name ever in the history of the universe.” A few years later, when the band decided to explore a more alt rock sound, they renamed themselves “22 Goats Smiling at You” after seeing Buzzfeed article of the same name. Quickly, however, the band shortened their name to 22 Goats and honed their sound.

After the band was signed to River Records, they spent six months writing and recording their debut album, “Smiling at You.” The first single from the album, “People Like Us,” released simultaneously with a music video that a surpassed over a billion views. Ultimately, the song landed at number 1 on three charts simultaneously: Billboard Hot 100, Alternative Songs, and Hot Rock Songs. The band’s follow-up single, “Under My Skin” also reached number 1 on all three charts. Two subsequent singles, “Faces” and “You Don’t Even Know Me” peaked at 11 and 14, respectively. The album has been certified platinum. As of the writing of this page, 22 Goats is recording their second album in Los Angeles. The name of the album has not yet been revealed.
